Meet Our Team
The greatest gift a facilitator can bring to a group is himself or herself. But it’s not about the facilitator! We aim to provide facilitators who are aware of what they can add to a group, but do not need anything from a group. We desire to provide professionally run programs focused on the needs of our clients in a friendly and insightful manner.
We regularly provide training opportunities for our staff both in technical skills as well as in people skills. We believe that people skills make the difference in your experience and in the lasting results. We sponsor the Virtuoso Series, bringing in the top practitioners from around the country to train our staff and other local facilitators. The result has been amazing; not only have we grown as individuals, but also as an organization. We practice what we preach.
John Rogers, M.S.
Director, Team and Leadership Center at Montreat College
John has been helping people understand who they are and what they bring to their team for more than 20 years.
As a facilitator and director, he has worked with sales teams, manufacturing management, international ministry leadership teams, educators and administrators, as well as youth in public and private education, therapeutic settings, and Christian camping and conference centers. Some of his clients include Baxter Health Care, Genentech, Indian Trail Baptist Church, Billy Graham Training Center, Accents on Asheville event planners, Montreat Conference Center, Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization, Superior Modular Products, The Navigators, Lenoir Community College, Furman University, Western Carolina University, Project Discovery Trio Program, the North Carolina Public Schools System, Asheville School, Christ School, Asheville City school system, Camp Rockmont, and Ridge Crest Camps.
John also started the Virtuoso Series in 2014, which features national and internationally known speakers, authors, and trainers on the Black Mountain campus. Guest speakers have included: Jim Cain, Jenifer Stanchfield, Michelle Cummings, Greg Robinson, and Chris Cavert. The series is open to students, and the community. The goal is to provide quality, specialized training opportunities and CEU’s with greater depth than a conference workshop, at an affordable cost. Workshop subjects include working with large groups, activities for educational programs camps and corporations, “choose your challenge,” making the most out of your challenge course, Inspiring students and teachers using experiential activities and processing tools, train-the-trainer workshops for professionals, sharpening the business and marketing side of your program, teams for a new generation, and risk management.
John is also currently a trainer for Signature Research Inc. Signatture’s Facilitator Training Workshops are designed to provide Practitioner Certification for workshop participants. Workshops cover appropriate technical and course management issues for your personnel to develop the skills to operate your challenge course program.
He has taught at Middle Tennessee State University, Western Carolina University, and Montreat College. John’s background includes director of community-based programs SOAR Inc., excursions director Eagle Lake Camp – The Navigators, as well as starting and operating an outdoor gear retail and consulting business.
His education includes a B.S. in Aerospace Administration, and a M.S. in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

Todd Murdock, N.C.C.
Todd brings the dual perspective of an outdoor adventure educator and that of a certified counselor to our team. He has 25 years of work experience with youth and adults in the outdoors as well as the classroom. He holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s of Education in Counseling from Western Carolina University. He is a certified instructor trainer for the Wilderness Education Association leading multi-day wilderness and mountaineering programs with young adults. He has guided on many of the rivers in the southeast and led several groups of youth on cross country cycling tours. Todd works everyday with first-generation college-bound students, helping them find the resources and desire to go to college.
Todd’s expertise is in the area of leadership. He has over thirty years of work experience coaching others in the art of group leadership. His work with youth and adults in public schools and the outdoors informs his style. He brings the dual perspective of an outdoor adventure educator and a Licensed Professional Counselor.
He holds degrees in Business Administration, Parks and Recreation, and a Master’s of Education in Counseling, from Western Carolina University, where he is Director of Project Discovery (a TRIO Talent Search program funded by the U.S. Department of Education). He is a certified instructor trainer for the Wilderness Education Association leading multi-day wilderness and mountaineering programs with young adults. He has guided on many of the rivers in the southeast and led multiple groups of youth on cross country cycling expeditions.
Prior to launching Curtis Wright Outfitters in March 2003, Jeff worked as an independent fly fishing guide and instructor in Western North Carolina and an innkeeper at Sourwood Inn, a 13-room inn on 100 acres of land in Asheville, NC. As part of the design and development team at Sourwood Inn, Jeff was instrumental in creating an outdoor-oriented atmosphere, blending a rustic feel with the amenities of a luxury inn. His responsibilities as innkeeper included advertising, bookkeeping and guest relations.
Prior to inn keeping, Jeff worked at two psychiatric facilities: Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, NC, and Marshall Pickens in Greenville, SC. While employed at these institutions, he worked with other team members to create and implement a comprehensive treatment program. Jeff has also served as director of programs at Project SOAR, a wilderness-based therapeutic recreation program near Waynesville, NC. His responsibilities included leading team building exercises and ropes course elements, as well as developing and implementing group initiatives. Jeff also served as partner and manager in a multi-store chain of clothing stores in Florida. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Furman University.
Jeff has worked with several corporate clients, including McDonald’s Corporation, Biltmore Farms Hotel, Market Source, and North Carolina State University.
Rob is passionate about helping others grow in their leadership, helping teams perform at higher levels, and helping organizations increase results. He serves individuals and organizations through coaching, leadership training, and team development facilitation.
He earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Reinhardt University, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Berry College, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Campbell School of Business.
He went on to start and run a successful team development company before going to work for Cobb-Vantress, Inc., as Director of Training and Leadership Development. Prior to this work, he was the Program Manager for WinShape Teams, a part of Chick-fil-A’s WinShape Foundation, specializing in building teams. He now works with individual leaders and organizations utilizing his skills and experience in business as a coach, trainer, and facilitator.
